*ding-ding is how we refer to Evie Cat when she’s not being terribly bright
I mentioned this morning about spending money to redecorate a little, but then I never showed you what I’d done.
That’s my new “headboard.” My bedroom suite originally had a wood-frame Mission style head and foot board. Many years of fat people having sex on a wood-frame bed will kill it. And when I went to replace it, I didn’t have money for anything but a heavy duty frame.
So Josh and I haven’t had anything at the top of the bed for a couple of years now. That’s not a tragic thing, but it always kind of annoyed me having that big expanse of bare wall. And then when Mom and I were at Target on Saturday we found these wall decals. They’re essentially stickers, but they’re not permanent and they don’t fuck up the paint. This set was on clearance for $9.98. Yes kids, less than ten bucks for a new custom headboard that matches the colors I already have down here beautifully.
But wait, it gets better…
Part of the reason we were at Target was because I was beyond bored with how the bathroom was decorated. The walls are a very pale blue, so I have blue towels (the big towels are much lighter, but still, blue). Which is fine, except the place I lived with Rob also had a blue bathroom, with the same guest towels and the same art on the walls, which was all in a celestial kind of “sun and moon” sort of motif. *yawn*
So when the kid and I finished doing the headboard we had a few flowers left, and I started walking through our areas of the house trying to see if they’d work somewhere. Those two bits there cover the nail holes from the old pictures. And this little guy…
is an unexpected little bit of color above the door. Not too fucking shabby for TEN BUCKS! (I am utterly ignoring the part of the redecorating wherein I have a new bedspread on the way. In my defense, I ordered it because Evie Cat kept getting her back claws caught in the Celtic one and I was afraid she was going to hurt herself. And the new one is stain resistant. And purple.)
Quite often I can get away with taming my “need to redecorate” urges by just moving the stuff on the walls or shelves around to new places. I also have one drawer in the big dresser where I keep candles and a few extra odds and ends so that I can rotate out some of the pretty bits now and again. And, I have no qualms about using thrift shop or estate sale pieces when I decorate. If I like the way something looks, I buy it and use it. I am particularly fond of a good sale.
Anyway, this first day of vacation is off to a good start. I did spend time with the dentist this morning and that went well. Sissy Cat is off at the salon getting her fur trimmed up. I’ve gotten our living area cleaned up better than it’s possibly ever been. It helps being able to go through Josh’s junk areas when he’s not here.
I had some really good Greek yogurt for breakfast and then an Everything bagel with onion and garlic cream cheese for lunch, along with a tiny bit of chocolate and a glass of milk. All of that’s been documented in my food journal thingy on the phone, which was less of a pain in the ass than I thought it would be. I’m thinking I’ll try to go for my blood work on Wednesday.
And now I believe I shall go find something mindless on the television and knit…
