My taste in music is fairly broad and a little eclectic. Lately I seem to go through phases. I’ll get stuck in a Punk kind of mood and listen to nothing but. Then I’ll switch to Folk music and temporarily burn myself out on Mumford & Sons and Peter, Paul and Mary or The Irish Rovers. I’ve even co-opted a little of Josh’s Heavy Metal for my stash and will listen to that now and again. I blame (in the very best way possible) my dad for this.
My dad also had fairly diverse taste in music. I grew up listening to Country, Folk, old Rock & Roll. And from Mom I got Barbara Streisand and Barry Manilow – whatever they’d be considered. We liked what we liked and we listened to a little of everything at the house.
Right now I’m in the midst of a Country phase. The CD in the jeep’s stereo right now is Garth Brooks and this morning I heard this on my way to work…
…and it really got me thinking about my parents. They have always encouraged me to dream big (it doesn’t cost extra, why not?) and to go after what I wanted. I was told as a very young girl that I could be and do anything I wanted to, if I wanted it bad enough and was willing to work hard. Their unconditional love and support, and that constant encouragement that I could do anything, got me through the very worst times in my life so far.
Even if Country music isn’t your thing I’d encourage you to listen to this one. The message is phenomenal. And so are you. You really can do anything you want to. I believe in you.

I like it, it’s great and it’s nothing wrong with country music, that’s great music for car driving, specially at night :o)

I’m picky about the music even within a genre. I don’t like all Punk, just certain bands, for example. And really, I just like who I like. 🙂 But yes, Garth is excellent driving music.

When I get home early enough I can sometimes catch her show on Food Network. I prefer the days she does traditional Southern food and doesn’t try to make it healthy. 🙂

I didn’t even have to get beyond the post title to have the song in my head!

Not at all. Now, if the song is stuck in my head in a few hours, I may have to revisit that statement.

I always did like Garth, very modest and very talented. Like all of us, he did ‘spread’ with age. lol

He’s always struck me as the “boy next door” type. And he can do things with this voice that paint pictures in my mind. My only bitch is that his music is only available through WalMart now and I don’t care for the way they treat their employees so I try to give them as little of my money as possible.

I usually only buy my tunes through ITunes now. I don’t remember the last time I spent money in a real store for songs.

It’s Amazon for me. Josh and I have decided that we’re going to look for albums that offer the digital download option and then just burn a copy if we want it in the car.

The *really* good albums will give you the physical CD in the mail PLUS an immediate digital download. That’s like Christmas all over again. 😀

I have relatively eclectic tastes in music but probably not as broad as yours. We had NO music in our home so I didn’t start to learn about it till I moved out. Love Garth and his kind heart, great values. Have most of his CD’s My son loves lots of music and my daughter will listen to anything but country. Kind of like me and jazz. I had 3 teenagers living in my house at once and they were all listening to a different kind of music at the same time, LOUD. So I put on my German polkas and joined the fun. 🙂 I’m with you on Walmart!

Damn it, I wanted to scream at you for loving country music and say I was going to divorce you as a friend and all that malarky, and then you come out with all that sentimental stuff and I remember why I love you! FFS!

I definitely wouldn’t say that I *love* country music, I just enjoy listening to certain country artists – very few of them actually. Garth happens to be rather in a class all his own. But yes, I am totally a sentimental fool. 🙂
