top 10 tuesday

  1. It gives me a sense of purpose. By teaching someone something I know I feel like a part of me will live on after my body has died.
  2. I learn better what I’m going to teach when I have to be able to show someone else how to do it.
  3. No two days are ever the same for me, and no two classes are ever the same, even when they cover the exact same content.
  4. Teaching gives me a built-in reason to interact with lots of different people.
  5. I am a people person, but I do that best in smaller doses. Teaching several short classes during the semester is perfect for me.
  6. I really like to help people and teaching has always felt like a great way to accomplish that.
  7. Evidently not many folks have patience anymore, but I do. I get told all the time how much people enjoy working with me to learn new skills because I don’t make them feel stupid or get all frustrated when they don’t catch on right away.
  8. I secretly always wanted to be a stand-up comic. Teaching gives me a little time to be “on stage” and I am a little funny while I do it.
  9. Money means very little to me. You don’t get rich doing what I do.
  10. This is the biggie: Teaching makes me feel as though I’m doing something to make a difference in someone’s life. Maybe what I teach you helps you do better in school and get a good job so you can support your family. Maybe what I teach you helps you feel more fulfilled in some way. Or maybe what I teach you just makes you smile. That’s enough for me.
