25 Songs in 25 Days Challenge – Day Twenty Five – The Final Day

A song you could listen to all day without getting tired of

Welcome to our final 25 Songs post. What a long, strange trip it’s been kiddos. Over the last 25 days you’ve been given a taste of my musical preferences, odd as they are. I like to try to keep things upbeat, so let’s go out on a high note.

Imagine Dragons “On Top of the World”

This is a great mood boosting song, and the video is so quirky and fun. I double dog dare you not to smile.

Thanks for sticking with me kids, I hope you’ve enjoyed the ride.

25 Songs in 25 Days Challenge – Day Twenty Four

A song that you have danced to with your best friend

I am totally cheating here, partially because that’s what I do and partially because I don’t dance. So, this is one that makes me think of my best friend and that makes me smile.

For my best friend and the love of my life, the amazing Josh… Have I Told You Lately by Van Morrison

If you’ve been following this blog for any length of time you’ll know that things have not always been so swell with Josh and I. We both have mental health diagnoses, he had an alcohol addiction, neither of us have always made great decisions. But we’ve stuck by each other for 4 years now, and I don’t see any signs of us stopping loving each other.

25 Songs in 25 Days Challenge – Day Twenty Three

A song that you cannot stand to listen to

I apologize in advance for this, kids.

Skrillex “Bangarang”

Actually, damn near any “music” that falls into the whole “club/house/dj/I made this on my MacBook during study hall” category.

THAT’S NOT FUCKING MUSIC!!!

In fact, I listened to precisely 30 seconds of this, just to make sure it really was what I had remembered. At 31 seconds my eardrums started to bleed and I had to shut it off.

25 Songs in 25 Days Challenge – Day Twenty Two

A song that someone has sung to you

Ah yes, more Van…

Van Morrison “Brown Eyed Girl”

Ok, so it’s an older and fatter Van, but still. And I sure as fuck know what a brown eyed girl is – ME!

The only guy who has ever sang to me (so far) was Rob. He had a great voice and once he learned of my love for Van he made a point to fucking nail this song for me. And he did.

25 Songs in 25 Days Challenge – Day Twenty One

Your favorite song

Not even the slightest bit of hesitation here.

Van Morrison “Into the Mystic”

To be perfectly honest, I don’t even know what the fuck this is about. I don’t. And you know what? I don’t care. It’s a gorgeous song that touches me in my soul and makes me want to move like a snake. And there’s just something about his voice. I get all warm and happy when I hear this.

And I really, REALLY, want to have a gypsy soul.

25 Songs in 25 Days Challenge – Day Twenty

The last song alphabetically in your iPod/iTunes

(see yesterday’s explanation of my hatred of all things “i”)

Oh kids, you poor little bastards…

“Waltzing Matilda”

I could not even tell you who sings the version I have on my computer, but this was the most interesting version I found on YouTube. (for the love of all things holy, do NOT listen to the Tom Waits version!) This one came to me compliments of Dad. After he passed I moved most of the music off his laptop and onto mine, and his music included some “treats” such as this.

You’re welcome.

25 Songs in 25 Days Challenge – Day Nineteen

The first song alphabetically in your iPod/iTunes

So let me start by saying that “i” anything sucks, in my humble opinion. I have an iPad, but only because my boss got it for me so I didn’t have to lug a laptop to meetings. I mostly use it for FB. Yes kids, your tax dollars at work. But I digress.

I don’t use an iPod and I sure as fuck don’t use iTunes, I use Windows Media Player. It was good enough to use in ’00, it’s good enough to use now. And Windows Media Player doesn’t work like that, with the songs all mingling together. Nope, we break that shit out by album. The first album in my WMP is Weird Al’s “Alpocalypse” and the first track is “Perform this Way.”

This is a live video, and it’s not bad. It definitely gives you the feel of what it’s like to be at one of his shows. I would encourage you to find the “official” video though; it’s an absolute scream.

25 Songs in 25 Days Challenge – Day Eighteen

A song that you love by rarely listen to

It took me a bit to come up with this one. Most of the songs I love are in the regular rotation, so I started looking through my collection. I have this album, which came out the year before I was born, but I don’t listen to it near often enough. This one is a gem.

Bob Seger “Fine Memory”

(the video is shit, sorry)

It’s existential, the lyrics are beautiful, the song is short, and it’s got that great 70s feel to it. And in the end, all we’re ever going to take is the memories.

25 Songs in 25 Days Challenge – Day Seventeen

A song that makes you want to dance

(this one goes out to Mer)

The Beatles “Twist and Shout”

Ok, so I got you there by way of Ferris Bueller, so what? That was one of the best movies of all time and included some of the best music, including this one. How can you not want to dance listening to this? And watching those dancers? GET OFF YOUR ASS AND DANCE!!!

25 Songs in 25 Days Challenge – Day Sixteen

A song that has made you cry

No, how about a song that always makes me cry.

Celtic Woman’s rendition of “Amazing Grace” (though any rendition that includes bagpipes will do the trick)

This is quite possibly the loveliest version out there. Bagpipes and those beautiful voices, it’s perfect. “Amazing Grace” has been a part of damn near every funeral I’ve been to, including my grandmother’s. I think maybe Mom had it played at Dad’s funeral, but to be honest, I remember very little of that day aside from thinking that the body on display in the casket was most certainly NOT my father.

The lyrics of the song are comforting, it’s usually the bagpipes that get me. There’s something so mournful about how they sound. Might want to get your tissues before you press “play.”
