If you’re just joining me for the first time, I’ve got a list of 10 Major Goals I want to accomplish before I turn 40 in 2016. That’s what I refer to as my Life Worth Living; it’s a DBT thing. If you don’t want to stay stuck where you’ve been in life, you have to figure out where you want to go and what it would take to truly make your life worth living.
Every week I do a Creative, Stress Management, Health, Financial, and School goal that tie back to my Building a Life Worth Living project. I’ve also added a Simplifying goal that ties into my plan to declutter my life this year. Bit by bit I’m reaching for the stars.
Update from last week:
First a few regular updates, seeing as I have not as much time to do these things as I would like.
- Evie’s bloodwork came back fine. The nice vet called me yesterday morning and said our girl is in good health and they’d already called in the refill stuff to the special pet pharmacy we use.
- JackieP came up with Fernidad as a name for little plant guy and I love it! I decided last night that sometime soon I will acquire a simple terra cotta pot for him that I can paint myself.
- I had ordered myself a t-shirt from Redbubble with my Dressed to Kill sugar skull design on it and it arrived yesterday. That was good. Evidently there is a HUGE difference between women’s sizes and unisex sizes. That was not good. So I contacted them to see how to send it back and they said no worries, we’ll make a new one in the size you need and please don’t worry about sending the other back. Luckily it’s fits the kid in an acceptable way and that seemed to tickle her to no end. Yay. Bottom line: if you ever had reservations about ordering from them, don’t. They’re amazing.
Creative – Draw another new design for the shops, finish the small project, back to work on the shrug. I have been drawing, though just the outlines so far. I’m almost done with the small project, hoping to get it done today. And I’m thinking I might need to start working on a pair of new socks for Mom instead of finishing the shrug.
Stress Management – Practice mindfulness and remind myself as often as necessary that I am ultimately only responsible for my own actions. This was pretty good this week.
Health – Pay more attention to what I shove in my face hole this week. I did pay more attention and I think I made some better choices because of it. Having easy access to fresh mandarin oranges helps.
Financial – Shouldn’t need to put any money out this week, so I won’t. I didn’t go shopping, so that totally counts as done. Having to take Evie to the vet was a medical expenditure which does not count as me being irresponsible.
School – Continue to stay caught up and work ahead as much as possible. At the very least I need to get the abstract written and catch myself back up with the reading. The abstract and reading are NOT done, but lots of other things are. And really, that’s all that matters. Progress.
Simplifying – March is Linens & Stuff in the Bathroom month, which I have a weird tendency to go through a lot anyway. Actually, looking over that list, I don’t need to do any of that shit. Hmm… I’ll think of something. Eventually. Maybe I’ll clean my desk drawer out again, it’s kind of trashed right now. Desk drawer has been tidied up!
Creative: I want to get at least one of the drawings I started completed.
Stress Management: Keep focusing on mindfulness. I’ve turned off as many of the notifications on my phone as I can and during the day when I’m working I log out of FB and my personal email to help minimize distractions. I was amazed last week at how much of a difference that made. So I’m going to do that again that week and see if it continues to be helpful. (my guess is that it totally will)
Health: Sleep will be the main issue this week. I felt like dirt yesterday and ended up going to bed at 8 and sleeping for quite awhile. Given that what used to be 6am is now 5am, I’m going to need to make sure that I get my pillow time in so that I don’t end up a cranky little bastard.
Financial: Continue to stay on top of my financial situation and not spend money when I really don’t need to.
School: I am entirely too lazy to type this shit all out when I’ve already had to write it for myself. This is my side of the little whiteboard that hangs on our fridge down here…
That isn’t all for this week, more like as much as I can tell for the remainder of the semester, but I want to get it wrapped up soon seeing as I have that conference presentation to get working on. Two things to note about this, 1) the purple numbers off to the side are the chapter numbers to read, and 2) the lines that read “mods 3&4” and “intro & wrap up” encompass about 24 individual things. FML.
Simplify: I really have done everything that I’d put on The List for March so I’m not going to worry about this so much right now. There’s plenty of other stuff going on right now.
