- It gives me a sense of purpose. By teaching someone something I know I feel like a part of me will live on after my body has died.
- I learn better what I’m going to teach when I have to be able to show someone else how to do it.
- No two days are ever the same for me, and no two classes are ever the same, even when they cover the exact same content.
- Teaching gives me a built-in reason to interact with lots of different people.
- I am a people person, but I do that best in smaller doses. Teaching several short classes during the semester is perfect for me.
- I really like to help people and teaching has always felt like a great way to accomplish that.
- Evidently not many folks have patience anymore, but I do. I get told all the time how much people enjoy working with me to learn new skills because I don’t make them feel stupid or get all frustrated when they don’t catch on right away.
- I secretly always wanted to be a stand-up comic. Teaching gives me a little time to be “on stage” and I am a little funny while I do it.
- Money means very little to me. You don’t get rich doing what I do.
- This is the biggie: Teaching makes me feel as though I’m doing something to make a difference in someone’s life. Maybe what I teach you helps you do better in school and get a good job so you can support your family. Maybe what I teach you helps you feel more fulfilled in some way. Or maybe what I teach you just makes you smile. That’s enough for me.
